3D Printing Policy

The Idea Garden 3D Printers are available for university staff, students, and faculty and may only be used for lawful purposes. It is not permitted to use the Idea Garden’s 3D Printers to create material which is:

• Prohibited by local, state, or federal law. 
• Unsafe, harmful, dangerous, or considered by Idea Garden staff to pose an immediate threat to the well-being of others.
• Considered by Idea Garden staff to be obscene or otherwise inappropriate for the academic environment.
• In violation of another’s intellectual property rights. 

Every print must first be reviewed by an Idea Garden Staff member before starting the printing process. Since the Idea Garden does not operate as a service, every model must be sliced and handled by the student, staff, or faculty member who is requesting that print under the supervision and guidance of the staff present in the Idea Garden. If a print fails and needs to be sliced again, the student, staff, or faculty member is responsible for returning to the space to check on the progress and status of their print. 

Here in the Idea Garden we want to keep the focus of 3D printing to educational purposes. As such, students have the ability to experiment with 3D printing and are allowed to print anything they desire under 100 grams total of material, with approval. All students are entitled to 100 grams of material in the Idea Garden, certain students may seek an exception up to 300 grams of material for classes and projects requiring 3d printing. Furthermore, if you are prototyping parts or pieces of parts you may be able to seek further exceptions on these gram limits depending on approval by Idea Garden Staff. 

By submitting a request you agree that your requested model will be used for non-clinical applications only. If seeking models for clinical usage, please contact IUI legal counsel. 

We ask that students refrain from touching the printers without staff supervision and let a staff member know immediately if they think that a print might be failing. While we do have the ability to offer a limited amount of color variety, we cannot guarantee any specific color at any time. When a staff member is assisting a student, staff, or faculty member we will also notify them if we see any major flaws in the model and warn them of any parts that we think might not turn out how they expect them to. 

Students who are planning on using 3D Printing as a part of a larger project should discuss the project with the Idea Garden Staff. All students, staff, and faculty should expect to allow at least 2 weeks for printing and at least half an hour of time spent in the space learning about 3D printing prior to requesting to print something in the Idea Garden. The Idea Garden reserves the right to turn away any print requests with a deadline approaching 72 hours or less. 

Please also be aware that unlike the print services on campus, we are a first come first serve location. Meaning that if we have someone come in that needs to print something that takes eight hours, their print will be started on the next available machine. We do not at anytime create a queue when multiple users need to print. It is the responsibility of the individual to come back at the next available time.  During these times, we cannot guarantee a quick turnaround rate for any prints that come in and we reserve the right to refer students to other 3D Printing locations on campus. 

Virtual Reality Equipment Policy

We ask that the students treat the computers and equipment in the space with respect. Additionally we ask that the students do not download games that are unauthorized and do not log out of the Steam accounts that are associated with each machine with the intent to download their own personal games onto the computers in the Idea Garden. If students have a request for a game that we currently do not have, they are free to inquire with an Idea Garden staff member about the possibility of getting that game in the future. 

We also ask that the students do not calibrate or adjust the positioning of the VR space while in the Idea Garden unless given approval from the staff to do so. 

Safety bands must be worn at all times. Repeated neglect of this rule may result in revoked priveleges.  

Event Request Policy / Event Policy

Here in the Idea Garden we enjoy helping students, staff, and faculty plan events in the Idea Garden. To schedule an event in the space please email igarden@iu.edu where you will speak with the Idea Garden lab coordinator about accommodations that we can provide to make your event plans come to life. 

There may be times where a student group or faculty member has reserved the Idea Garden for an event in which other students will not be able to continue using the space. We hope that students who are asked politely by staff to leave will be respectful of these times and events and that they know that they are welcome to return to the space once the event has finished and resume enjoying the Idea Garden. 

Lost and Found

If items are left unattended and the owner of the belongings is not known to the Idea Garden staff, these items will be stored up to 30 days after which any unclaimed items will be disposed of. We reserve the right to discard of any paper products or items containing food waste that are not retrieved by the end of the same day. If larger items or more expensive items are similarly left behind, such as backpacks, wallets, computers, or other electronic devices, by the end of the day campus police will be notified of such objects to be picked up. To reach the Lost and Found branch of the campus police, you can dial (317) 274 - 2058 to report or inquire about retrieving lost items. 

Food and Drink Policy

We ask that students be mindful and respectful of their surroundings. Food and drink is allowed in the Idea Garden, however we ask that students refrain from eating in front of or near computers. All drinks should have a cap or lid and any open containers of liquid should be kept away from the computers or other equipment in the space. Additionally if students make a mess in the space, they can ask the Idea Garden staff for assistance with cleaning up. We want to make sure that the space is welcoming to all who enter it and that it continues to stay that way.

During events, there may be times that students with food are asked to eat their food outside of the Idea Garden to avoid causing a disturbance. There is plenty of seating nearby that students can use just for this purpose.

Unattended Minor Policy

Minors are not permitted to use the facility unless they are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, are currently enrolled at IU, or are actively attending a specific event held in the Idea Garden. 

Illegal Drugs

Illegal drugs are strictly prohibited at IU. Illegal possession of these drugs or the illegal possession of prescription medication (controlled substances) will result in IU Code of Conduct charges and may also result in eviction from on campus housing. 

Liability

Indiana University and the Idea Garden assumes no responsibility for the accident, injury, loss, or damage to persons, nor any theft, loss or damage of personal belongings in or on Idea Garden property. Students should contact Campus Police with any theft, damage, or injury concerns.

Use of University Areas

Items left in Common Areas are subject to removal and will be discarded. Furnishings and computers in the Idea Garden are for the collective use of all students, staff, and faculty at IU. All Furnishings, decorations, and technology are to remain in their proper location and may not be moved to other areas without the prior approval of a member of the Idea Garden staff. 

Maintenance

Only IU staff members or University-authorized contractors are allowed to conduct maintenance on/in the Idea Garden. Students are not permitted to make any repairs. If a student should notice something is damaged or otherwise requiring maintenance, we ask that they talk to a staff member in the Idea Garden.

Safety Equipment

Tampering with fire safety equipment is a federal offense and may result in criminal charges, fines, disciplinary action, and/or termination of resident housing contracts. This includes fire extinguishers, fire alarm pulls, smoke detectors, sprinkler systems, fire panels, propping fire doors, etc. Covering smoke detectors is strictly prohibited. This includes the hanging of tapestries or other items from the ceiling or sprinkler heads.

Smoking

In accordance with the IU Smoking Policy, all University facilities, grounds, and vehicles are smoke-free. Violations of this policy may result in judicial action, including, but not limited to, fines and education sanction. Please only smoke in designated areas. There is a $25.00 fine for smoking in non-smoking areas. 

We ask that all students, staff, and faculty respect others in the space and refrain from vaping, or the use of electronic cigarettes in the space as well in order to keep the environment-friendly to all who might come in. 

Student Code of Conduct

Students must be responsible for their behavior, and respect the rights and dignity of others both within and outside of the university community. The university may discipline a student for the following acts of personal misconduct that occur on university property, including but not limited to academic and administration buildings, residence halls, athletic and recreational facilities, and other university-serviced property, such as sororities and fraternities:

1. Dishonest conduct including, but not limited to, false accusation of misconduct, forgery, alteration, or misuse of any University document, record, or identification; and giving to a university official information known to be false. 
2. Assuming another person’s identity or role through deception or without proper authorization. Communicating or acting under the 27 guise, name, identification, e-mail address, signature, or other indications of another person or group without proper authorization or authority. 
3. Knowingly initiating, transmitting, filing, or circulating a false report or warning concerning an impending bombing, fire, or other emergency or catastrophe; or transmitting such a report to an official or an official agency. 
4. Unauthorized release or use of any University access codes for computer systems, duplicating systems, and other university equipment.
5. Conduct that is lewd, indecent, or obscene. 
6. Disorderly conduct, including obstructive and disruptive behavior that interferes with teaching, research, administration, or other University or University-authorized activity. 
7. Actions that endanger one’s self, others in the University community, or the academic process. 
8. Failure to comply with the directions of authorized University officials in the performance of their duties, including failure to identify oneself when requested to do so; failure to comply with the terms of a disciplinary sanction; or refusal to vacate a University facility when directed to do so. 
9. Unauthorized entry, use, or occupancy of University facilities. 
10. Unauthorized taking, possession or use of University property or services or the property or services of others. 
11. Damage to or destruction of University property or the property belonging to others.
12. Unauthorized setting of fires on University property; unauthorized use of or interference with fire equipment and emergency personnel. 
13. Unauthorized possession, use, manufacture, distribution, or sale of illegal fireworks, incendiary devices, or other dangerous explosives. 
14. Possession of any weapon or potential weapon on any University property contrary to law or University policy; possession or display of any firearm on University property, except in the course of an authorized activity. 
15. Sale of any firearms from University property or using University facilities, including through computer and telephone accounts; intentional possession of a dangerous article or substance as a potential weapon. 
16. Acting with violence. 
17. Aiding, encouraging, or participating in a riot. 
18. Harassment, defined in Part I ( c ) of the Code.
19. Stalking or hazing of any kind whether the behavior is carried out verbally, physically, electronically, or in written form. 
20. Physical abuse of any person. 
21. Verbal abuse of another person. 
22. Unauthorized possession, use, or supplying alcoholic beverages to others contrary to law or University policy. 
23. Unauthorized possession, manufacture, sale, distribution, or use of illegal drugs, any controlled substance, or drug paraphernalia. Being under the influence of illegal drugs or unauthorized controlled substances. 
24. Intentionally obstructing or blocking access to University facilities, property, or programs.
25. Violation of other disseminated University regulations, policies, or rules. Examples of such regulations include but are not limited to University computing policies, residence hall policies, and recreational sports facility policies. 
26. A violation of any Indiana or federal criminal law. 
27. Engaging in or encouraging any behavior or activity that threatens or intimidates any potential participant in a judicial process.

Conduct Proceeding

1. Alleged Incident Occurs - Anyone involved in, is witness to, or has information about an incident may choose to write an Incident Report to document the facts of the incident. 
2. Incident Report Is Written - Students, staff and faculty members who have witnessed the event may at this time choose to provide staff of the Idea Garden with a written report of the incident including, their name, username, and phone number. However no such report will be required at this time. 
3. Consult Management - Incidents will be reported to the STC Assistant Manager and/or the STC Manager. Violations of the Idea Garden Policy will be considered as a decision on whether to ban the student, staff, or faculty member from the space will be decided upon.
4. Student, Staff, Faculty Notification - If substantial information exists within the incident report to indicate an alleged policy infraction, a notification will be sent to the student, staff, or faculty member who allegedly violated the policy. This notification will inform the student, staff, or faculty member of the policy and date of the alleged violation as well as the verdict reached by management when it was brought to their attention.
5. IUPD Notification - Should a student, staff, or faculty member be ultimately banned and management should think that it is appropriate, IUPD will be notified to come to the Idea Garden and take a formal statement from all students, staff, and faculty who are able to give witness to the event.
6. Further Engagement - Should a student, staff, or faculty member that has been banned from the space attempt to escalate the situation or attempt to enter the space once they have been notified upon being banned from the space, the student, staff, or faculty member will be warned that should they continue their behavior that the IUPD will be called to handle the situation from that point on.

Sanctions

Violations

The following is a partial list of violations for which a student, staff, or faculty member may be banned from the Idea Garden. This list is not all inclusive, but rather is intended to give some examples of serious violations. 

• Possession or dangerous use of weapons/substances including guns, knives, explosives, or flammable materials.
• Possession or use of illegal drugs or alcohol within the space.
• Tampering with fire-safety equipment.
• Physical abuse of others including assault and sexual assault.
• Threats of violence to others, including physical threats and sexual harassment.
• Intentional throwing or dropping of equipment and technology in the space.
• Repeated violation of policies or regulations.
• Harassment of any kind towards staff or management.

Plagiarism

Offering the work of someone else as one’s own is plagiarism. Plagiarism is considered a form of academic misconduct. Materials taken from another source must be fully acknowledged and the author must be given proper credit. The language or ideas taken from another may range from isolated formulas, sentences or paragraphs, to entire articles copied from books, periodicals, speeches, or the writings of others including other students. The offering of materials assembled or collected by others in the form of projects or collections without acknowledgment is also considered plagiarism. The IU School of Education’s ‘How to Recognize Plagiarism’ is an online tutorial that can help a student properly acknowledge the contributions of others’ works. Threatening Behavior and Violence

IU strives to maintain a safe environment. Accordingly, threatening behavior and violence will not be tolerated. In case of an actual or imminent act or threat of violent behavior, call the IUI Police at 274- 7911. The Behavioral Consultation Team (BCT) provides consultation, makes recommendations for action, and coordinates campus resources in response to reports of disruptive or concerning behavior displayed by students, staff or faculty.  

Violence Against Women Act

Report all dating violence, sexual assault, domestic violence or stalking to the IU Police Department, 1232 West Michigan Street, Indianapolis, IN 46202; 317-274-2058; on-campus emergencies to 317-274- 7911 or email at police@iu.edu. Weapons Policy IU Policy on Possession of Firearms and Weapons prohibits students from possession of firearms (regardless of any permit to carry) or other items deemed to be a dangerous article or substance while on University property as defined in the policy. Guns may not be kept in vehicles when visiting campus. Counseling and Psychological Services Center

IUI Counseling and Psychological Service Center (CAPS) has a professional staff available to provide individual or group counseling. CAPS provides direct professional psychological services, including crisis response, counseling, assessment, and referral that are accessible to, and provide for, the general wellbeing of all IUPUI students. CAPS is located at in Suite 220 in the Walker Plaza, 217 Indiana Avenue and can be contacted at (317) 274-2548.

Copyrighted Materials/Reproducing Faculty Materials

Physical materials generated by faculty for instructional use in a course may be considered the intellectual property of the faculty member and/or the University. All posted/distributed materials may be used for the purposes of study within a course or other academic courses. Students may NOT copy, photograph, or video-record these materials for distribution or sharing in any format including posting materials to YouTube or a website without the express written permission of the individual faculty member who prepared the materials. 

Audio recording of a classroom presentation for purposes of study is permitted but cannot be distributed or used in any manner except for purposes of study within the course. Any other use of the audio recording(s) requires the express permission of the individual faculty member who prepared the presentation. 

Any electronic, audio, or visual record of an educational activity including podcasting should not be made publicly visible or audible so as to potentially result in persons other than IUPUI students or faculty having access to the content. 

Ignoring or abusing the copyright laws may be considered academic and/or professional misconduct and is grounds for possible disciplinary action. Unauthorized reproduction/ distribution could also give rise to a claim of copyright violation.

Mobile Device Encryption

It is Indiana University policy that all mobile devices (such as smartphones, tablets, laptops, thumb drives, and flash drives) with access to or storing critical data must be encrypted. Critical data includes protected health information (for example: patient names, patient phone numbers, medical record numbers, and identifiable patient photos). University Logo Use on Websites or Web Pages

The University’s trademark policy, as well as federal law, prohibits the use of certain phrases, information or links on student websites or student pages published or maintained on servers external to the University.
